History
Colin Maddocks founded MADDOCKS SPORTS in 1982. The company is based in Melbourne, Australia.
Colin, a qualified accountant, had previously worked in the UK managing a cricket bat factory. Through the 80’s and 90’s, Maddocks Sports evolved through cricket equipment manufacture, importing and sales, and indoor cricket training and coaching centres in Melbourne, while also expanding into synthetic grass cricket pitch sales and installations.
Since the early 2000’s, those businesses were sold, but the company retained the synthetic grass operations.
Today
Colin now works from his home office, concentrating on sales and installations of synthetic grass cricket pitches and other synthetic grass surfaces. Sales of these products have grown 400% over the years, with our SUBURBAN GRASS reflecting the demand for new-gen realistic artificial home lawn areas, where natural grass has failed or is not wanted.
The company has developed new products and services over the last few years such as:
- Winter pitch covers
- All-seasons Pitches (patented product)
- Pitch cleaning service
- Building new cricket net practice facilities
- Soft-feel bowling run-ups and synthetic pitch surrounds
- Fixing bare spots on sports ovals (gate entries, coach’s boxes etc)
- Back yard synthetic lawns, SUBURBAN GRASS
The company has completed many hundreds of these installations all over Victoria, and also Adelaide & Sydney areas. We now have All-seasons cricket pitches in every state, including WA, Tasmania and Queensland. Our major customers are local councils & cricket clubs, with domestic lawn jobs increasing rapidly.
