Maddocks Sports offers two different types of cricket surface:

1. STANDARD CRICKET PITCH (needs to be covered for winter football)

With around 30 years experience, Maddocks Sports has learnt that the ideal hardwicket cricket surface is a 9mm to 10mm short-pile polypropylene synthetic grass, with double backing for extra strength. This is glued directly to the concrete.

Many years ago, it was thought that a taller pile height was somehow better for cricket; indeed we used to offer a 12mm “Test” surface (and some other suppliers still try to sell this as a premium surface). We now know the cricket ball tends to ‘sit up’ on these pitches, and they don’t last any longer.

Supershield
Our recommended cricket pitch, Supershield has a high yarn weight, is a dense grass and will last for many years under high usage

Shield
This is a lighter grass, but still plays perfectly for cricket, and lasts well.

2. ALL-SEASONS PITCH (exclusive to Maddocks Sports, does not need to be covered in winter)

  1. Our patented cricket pitch surface, the All-seasons is a hybrid pitch that serves as both a cricket pitch in summer, and a softer cover in winter. It is the first new idea in permanent cricket surfaces since synthetic grass came in the 1980’s, as the days of coir matting & malthoid disappeared. This pitch is a polyethylene grass fitted over a rubber shock-pad, installed over the concrete base. This surface bounces a little higher, and plays a little slower than Supershield or Shield.all-seasons-pitch
  2. The All-Seasons Pitch is the only hard-wicket surface that does not need to be covered over for winter sports. Once cricket is over, inexpensive rubber particles are broomed into the whole pitch surface to soften it for winter. The more rubber, the softer the surface becomes. Football, Soccer etc have a flat, firm yet soft, non-abrasive surface to run over for the winter seasons.
  3. At the end of winter, the rubber particles need to be removed. This conversion process is done best by water blasting the granules completely off the pitch surface.
  4. Maddocks Sports can provide easy to follow conversion instructions, or we can perform the conversions for you in the Melbourne area. For only $280 + GST for a winter conversion (incl. rubber), or $240 + GST for a summer conversion, ask the team at MADDOCKS SPORTS for more information about our conversions.
  5. The All-seasons pitch has proven to be extremely popular, with almost 400 pitches laid all over Australia over the last 10 years
  6. The Maddocks Sports All Seasons Pitch costs only $5,950 + GST for a 60 square metre centre pitch, fully installed in the Melbourne metro area
